Lessons Learned

A busy weekend tournament in Stratford. We had some time to learn a little more about our team on and off the ice. Our Friday started off with lots of excitement as we rolled into St. Mary's, but we struggled to get the feet moving but a shut out by Lauren we came away with a tie. Some headed for the hotel for a quick nap and some food and others went for lunch at Jennies. We assembled again to take on a big Wallaceburg team. Again slow feet and staying back letting them come to us, and they made us pay for it as we gave up 4 goals. After a tough bounce Lizzy came back and our true colours showed in the end, We don't give up and Melissa was able to fire home our first goal of the tournament in a loss.

Back to the hotel for some fun in the snow and pool, Hanging out with our teammates and pizza. The parents got some much need bonding themselves with a little mint smoothie and trying not to pick on the leaf's fans to much. The early morning brought us to the very cold 8am game. We hit the ice flying being aggressive and attacking the play with Morgan and Clair scoring one each and Teagan firing 2 big shots from the point into the back of the net. A much needed complete team win with all 3 lines working hard keeping us in the hunt. Brunch at Demetre's to refuel for a big game against the undefeated host Stratford. With our Atom A team cheering us on we came out and stunted  the host crowed with Piper scoring in the first minute of play. The excitement was a little much for us as Stratford tied it up quickly. We refocused and continued the aggressive attack with all 3 lines, bugging our opponents. When the coach made a quick line change to clam down a few girls before we took a penalty. Melissa was able to put us in the lead again. Then it was time to play defence all 6 defence did a great job of clearing puck and our forwards got back to help in our end making good passes to clear the zone. In the dyeing  minute Stratford had 6 attackers and we collapsed around our net, 5 girls kept the puck out with a final quick toe save by Lauren to send us to the semi-Finals. A much quieter night at the hotel made the coach think of good things to come. Facing the Big Wallaceburg team again a turn back to Friday we played better but not the aggressive attack of Saturday. As a team we stayed back again and struggles to clear our zone. Our Day was over to quickly but we did learn more about our team, Who could dance, who could roll in the snow, how much of mess of a bed girls can make,  Mint Smoothies are good, and hopefully we learnd if we play our aggressive attack game good thing will happen. A special thanks to our teammate of the weekend Ava, we know how much you wanted to play.
