From Rust to Silver

When you hit the ice after the Christmas break rust is the colour you expect to see. We opened our tournament in Woodstock and the rust was showing dull.

As our first game went on we started to polish it up and came away with a tie to the host team Woodstock Wildcats. Game 2 Friday night against Lambton Attack was a little more polishing as our goalie made some not so glovely saves,(close your glove Rocky) but we skated much better and Delta Collard made the coaches extra happy with the hard shots down low and not over the net and took us to a 5-0 win. After some sleep we showed up Saturday looking to clean off some more rust. We came up against a Mount Forest team with a sick goalie. We did a great job of moving the puck as we worked on positional play and did our best not to take advantage of a Mount Forest forward playing net. Saturday night our nervousness of the unknown got the best of us as we struggled with what we thought was a very strong Saugeen Shores team (they where) and the 5-1 loss was hard on us. Championship Sunday was a rematch of Saturday night. Only this time we new what to expect and played our game. When the rust was gone off both teams from all the bumping and rubbing, goalies making great save after great save and the game was over, The Coach from Saugeen said it best of the 2-0 game "That was not the team we played last night, great game St. Thomas". That is how we turned Rust into Silver.
