Atom Parents,
The Panther Board has made the decision to continue the Atom tryouts in
late August.
Currently we are sitting at nineteen skaters and two goalies for the
Atom age. We had anticipated additional girls coming to tryouts which
would have allowed us to ice two fairly full rostered teams.
Our concern is from past experience where we have had teams with eleven
or fewer players. It becomes difficult to run these teams when you factor
in the other realities of life. ( birthday parties, vacations, sickness, ect.)
We have been contacted by some families who plan to bring their daughter to the Panthers for next year but they were not able to get them to tryouts.
The Panthers have several initiatives going on right now which we anticipate will bring more girls into the organization. (flyers going into schools this week, bring a friend skates in August, equipment lending library)
The last several years we have run Atom tryouts in the fall and we have always had girls come from boys hockey, other centres, ringette ect.
Our goal is to have two healthy Atom teams for the 2015-16 season.
All the girls who have been at tryouts will be guaranteed a spot on a Panther team in the fall.
There will be no additional charge for the August ice time.
We have several great candidates that have shown interest in coaching the second team when it is put together.
The final Atom tryout skate on Sunday will be cancelled so the girls can have a great day with their mothers.
