Panthers Win Pink the Rink
The St. Thomas Panthers Midget C are Pink the Rink Champions after two thrilling double overtime wins on the weekend!!

In game one of the tournament the Panthers faced the Thessalon Lions.  After two early goals by the unstoppable Rachel Baxter on the power play Lexi Hooper- Cox threw a shot at the net in the third to complete the scoring getting the Panthers off on the right foot for the tournament!

Game two saw the Panthers play on their heels for the majority of the game against a strong and aggressive team from Napean.  Bethany Marino managed to keep the final score even at 0 with an estimated 40 saves!

On Saturday the Panthers faced another physical team, this time from North Bay.  It was clear the fun the players had the night before was still in their system and wearing on them.  They were thoroughly defeated by the team from North Bay 3-0.

With one win, one tie and one loss our Panthers qualified for the playoffs in third place and would play again at 10:15 pm. Saturday.  We played against the team from Napean again this time.  This was a much tighter affair which lasted through two overtime periods and a four player shootout.  In the shootout Rachel Baxter and Jada Doxtator converted on the first and fourth opportunities with Marino once again slamming the door shut for the win.

The final would see us play the Lions of Thessalon again.  This time the game was a tight checking, physical test.  The Panthers lost one of their emotional leaders, Taylor Deleary early in the first on a questionable call.  This game would progress through the regular time and two o/t's without scoring.  Once again Marino stood on her head to seal the deal for the team.  As the first shooter of the o/t Baxter went top cheese with the backhand celebrating all the way to the bench only to have the referee wave the goal off because the net had become displaced in the course of the shot.  On her second attempt Rach used the same move and avoided the poke check to score again.  That goal was all the Panthers would need to secure a championship win!  Marino stopped all three Lions shots and the Panthers were crowned Champions!

Tournament Notes:
Monday had better be laundry day for the girls.  By the end of the final it was clear to everyone they passed that they STINK!
We may be the first team in tournament history to win the final after scoring only 3 goals in the entire playing portion of the tournament!

Next Game: Friday, Oct. 23 vs Blemont Blazers at St. Thomas Memorial Arena  7:30 pm
