Tryout Info and Expectations
Welcome to Midget B tryouts.

Here are a few notes about the process for the tryouts and the expectations for the upcoming season.
Tryouts will begin on Friday, May 23 at 9:00pm. We will have our second tryout on Sunday, May 25 at 4:00pm. There third tryout is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 27 at 8:30pm. All tryouts will take place at the Timken Centre. We may have an exhibition game in lieu of or in addition to the third tryout. Players are expected to be at all tryouts. If a player is unavailable for any of the tryouts please email me directly and let me know.

When selecting the team I will be looking for hard working individuals that can read and react to the challenges they face on the ice. Speed is a key element in the game and thinking while playing at speed is a skill which makes teams very successful. Skating, stick handling, positioning and overall play will be evaluated during the tryouts. We will complete a series of drills, small area games and scrimmages. There will be a group of evaluators at the tryouts.

With all of my teams, one of the most important philosophies I try to communicate to the players is “team first”! Team cohesiveness and responsibility are the basis to my teams and make for an enjoyable and generally successful season not only on the ice but in the dressing room and away from the rink. We will work on this aspect of the team starting as soon as the team is selected. As a side note this is something that starts away from the rink and carries through the team including the parents involved with the team.

The general plan for the season is to play ‘B’ hockey in the WOGHL league. This will allow us to play at least 12-15-15 games and seed according to our ability as a team. We will play in the St. Thomas Early Bird seeding tournament in early September and the Panthers On the Prowl Tournament in early December. I would like to attend one or two other tournaments to be determined after at our first team meeting shortly after the team is selected.

I expect the girls to be able to commit to 4.5 to 6 hours at the rink each week. We will have one to two practices and one to two games per week and may include some dryland and tam building activities. Many of our games will be played on the weekends. While I understand the importance of outside activity such as jobs, school and other extracurricular activities our team deserves the same commitment.

If you are unsure as to what I expect please speak with me at the tryouts. If you have any questions about any of the above information please feel free to contact me via email at the address on the Panthers web site. Thanks for attending and good luck at tryouts.
