Peewee's Win with Defence
The Peewee LL Panthers continued their winning ways by picking up a pair of victories over the weekend.  Coach Crosset stressed defence all week in practice and it paid off with everyone contributing in the two wins.

St.Thomas played the Bad girls at home in a matinee game and came away with a hard fought 2-0 win. Using the 1-3-1 neutral zone trap Crossett's crew frustrated the visitors and kept the play in their opponents end. Heather, Taylor, Raylee, Maddy, Karen and Zoe led the way by focusing on defence first. The score remained tied at 0-0 midway through the second when Maddy C fought to the front of the net and banged in a rebound. Audrey and Amy picked up assists. The defence led by Julia, Amy, Shelby, Nicole and Audry took over from there and stifled BAD from creating any serious chances. Part way through the third Goose broke free on a great pass from Taylor and slid a backhand under the goalie to make it 2-0. Emily held down the fort the rest of the way picking up her 5th shutout in a row.

On Sunday the Panthers traveled to Dresdan to take on the previously undefeated Kent County Fillies. You could feel the tension in the air as St.Thomas came out on the milky white ice for the pregame warmup. The locals had the place packed to the rafters. Coach Crossett had the girls fired up prior to the puck drop. The first period was a tight checking affair with neither side giving an inch. Emily was called on to make several key saves to keep the visitors off the score sheet. Early in the second Madsion won an offensive zone face and Maddy was in the right spot firing a blistering snap shot through the five hole to make it 1-0. This seemed to fire the Panthers up as they started to take the play to the Phillies. Goose broke in on a great pass from Nicole and put a nice deak on the home net-minder to make it 2-0. Once again the defensive team of Amy, Nicole, Julia, Audrey, and Shelby took over and held down the home squad. Madison capped off the scoring with a beautiful goal to make it 3-0. St.Thomas won the first battle of these two juggernauts, but there will be more to come in this fierce rivalry.

The Panthers put their undefeated season on the line Wednesday night vs the Woodstock Wildcats at the Timken Centre. Good tickets are still available at the door.
