Heartbreak Loss for Peewee BB's at Leaside Tournament
The Peewee BB's came out flying in the round robin portion of the tournament going undefeated to clinch 1st place overall out of 6 teams in their pool. This also avoided a Saturday night game allowing the families to hang out at the hotel and go shopping in the GTA. The Panthers beat Etobicoke 2-1, Leaside BB 2-1 and Leaside B 3-0 with Sara Verboom earning her 9th shutout of the season. The girls had a balanced attack with 7 different girls getting single markers. Goal scoreres included Rachel Sheridan, Haley Agius, Kaitlyn Guernsey, Meredith Fisher, Ali Johnson, Jaylin Wismer and Tori Baxter. Helpers went to Rachel Baxter, Kaitlyn Guernsey and Meredith Fisher.

In the Semi Final game Sunday morning the girls ran into a fast and persistent team from Oakville who will be one of the teams to beat at the upcoming Provincial Tournament. Oakville gained revenge on an earlier 1-0 loss to the Panthers at the Barrie tournament in November, taking the game 2-0.

The loss put the girls into the bronze medal game against Durham West. They weathered a slow start with solid goal tending from Sara Verboom and jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second period with goals from Meredith Fisher and Teah Burke. Assist went to Haley Agius and Kaitlyn Guernsey (2). Durham West battled back with a goal in the 2nd and tied it up with 3:12 to go in the game. With no more scoring in regulation time, they went to a 4 on 4, 5 min sudden death overtime. The OT period was dominated by the Panthers as one of the girls favourite drills (3 on 3 puck control) paid off, forcing the Durham West goalie to make several excellent saves. Again, with no scoring they went to a shoot out, with Durham West scoring the winner on the third shooter.

Excellent job girls! It was a true team effort and you should be proud of how you played!
