The St. Thomas Panther Atom LL Team made it to the semi finals recently at the Barrie Sharkfest Tournament.
The weekend got off to a good start when the Panthers went 3-0 in their pool play. Rianne N. continued to impress all with her goaltending play. She recorded her first shut out of the year and was clutch in stopping a penalty shot as well. Goals were scored by Alexa C., Venessa J., Shelby V., Amy C., Mackenzie C., Renee L., and Audrey S. Other players that stepped up their play include Aviva F., Zoe M., Kaila N., Hannah M., Kayla L., Julia C., and Heather D. Their two way play was crucial to the team’s success, and they were often key in stopping the other team’s best players.
The highlight of the weekend was the quarter final game on Sunday morning. After falling behind with two minutes left, the Panthers pulled their goalie for the extra attacker and tied the game up with less than a minute to go. After an exciting overtime, it came down to a shoot out. Rianne N. stopped all three shooters, while Vanessa J. scored on her shot. After that emotional win, the Panthers dug deep and battled to the final seconds in the semi final game. An attempt for another last minute comeback with the goalie out of the net fell short and the Panthers lost that game 4-3.
Overall the tournament was a huge success for the Atom LL team and should provide confidence as the regular season schedule continues.
